I’ve been an active member of our community for over 23 years. I’ve been a photographer for over 10. The blue ridge mountains are my home.
These are very difficult times we are facing in WNC since hurricane Helene. I’ve lost most of the photo shoots I had booked from October through December of this year.
Impact from Helene: These are always my busiest months, averaging between 10 and 15 shoots per month and this income, usually gets me through the winter. Since most of my clients were also impacted by the storm, not only was I not able to keep their bookings, but we could not book additional shoots in the future as we had planned. Another reason I have lost bookings is the condition of the scenic areas where I typically take clients for photo shoots, like the River Arts District, the parkway closing, etc. This lost income has not only affected my ongoing business plans, but also made it very difficult to provide for my daughter, our family and pets who are counting on my income now more than ever.
The ask: I am seeking financial assistance to help towards bills and expenses so that I can create a home studio as an option to offer to my clients at a discounted rate. I feel that this could potentially help me regain some of the lost opportunities for work which could still provide my clients with great images and help my family make it through the hard winter coming up.
In addition to my work as a photographer, I am also the social media & communications manager for the WNC based inclusive group Asheville Model Network, supporting talent in the Southeast and beyond. My work with AMN is aimed at creating jobs and collaborative opportunities for the community by hosting in-person networking events, online activities and more. I have worked to help grow our fashion community since I moved to the area over 20 years ago and now the Asheville Model Network has approximately 4,500 members. Any assistance from donations would not only help me support my family through the winter, but would also be a huge help for me to continue my work keeping our fashion community of models, photographers, designers, and more, engaged and holding hope for a space to be creative together.
