Paige Houghton Art
Art has always been a huge part of my life, ever since my 2nd grade teacher confiscated my new box of six crayons. I simply would not stay inside the lines! And now I am making a splash with paint here in our tiny 1925 Asheville bungalow. I have worked in my tiny home studio as a fiber artist in Asheville for over a decade. I like to take my inspiration from all the beauty here in Asheville and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.
And some of the inspiration comes from what’s growing in our garden. I created my fiber art with my trusty sewing machine. But I was sewing so much that my right thumb just gave out. For now, I’ll save sewing for personal projects. And there are so many!
Now that bum thumb could have been the end of my art, but then isn’t everything art? The clothes you wear, the way you arrange your dinner on the plate. The perfect spot for a treasured vase with the first rose of spring? But for me, not to use color every day simply wouldn’t work. And that’s where the paint “enters the picture”. I love combining the colors and textures of the paint and moving them on a surface, manipulating the flow. And it is always a surprise to see how it flows! Paint is perfect for me because I love color!
Impact by Helene:
I displayed my art at Foundation Studios, one of the buildings that was destroyed. So I lost all my inventory, excepting one piece.
The ask:
I am so lucky to now be an artist at #362 on Depot Street. But money for supplies to rebuild my inventory and to help with the rent of the new space would be fabulous!
