Keira Marie Designs
Keira Peterson is a ceramic artist whose work is embodied by simple forms and minimal designs. Her process clears her mind with a meditative state of focus, resulting in pleasing work with calming subtle curves and soothing textures.
She graduated with an Associates degree of Visual Arts at Corning Community College where she was recognized with an Excellence in Art Award in 2012. She then continued her studies at SUNY New Paltz where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts and was awarded Outstanding Graduate in the Arts Department in 2014.
Inspired by the large community of extraordinary artists and the rich history of ceramic art in the area, she moved to Asheville in 2017 to continue her informal education. She was accepted into The Village Potters Clay Center’s Independent Study and Mentorship program as a Studio Apprentice, from 2017-2019 and again in 2020-2021, assisting in necessary duties to keep the facility running smoothly, including but not limited to loading and firing teaching center kilns, mixing teaching center glazes, assisting in Hands on Workshops, and more. It was also during the Independent Study and Mentorship Program where she continued to expand her skills and style and subsequently became fascinated with making her own glazes as well as cultivating the modern designs she is known for today.
Impact from Helene: All three of my sources of income were directly impacted by Hurricane Helene. I was the Operations Manager of The Village Potters Clay Center, and also a beginner wheel instructor at the same facility which was completely devastated by the flood. Additionally, my personal pottery studio was on the second floor of the same building and was subjected to over 3 feet of flooding, submerging both of my pottery wheels and ruining the majority of the tools and equipment I had carefully curated over the last decade.
The ask: Please consider donating to my GoFundMe to help me buy new equipment and supplies, and cover bills and rent. Although I was only able to salvage limited inventory from the flood, I will also list pieces available for purchase on my website as they become available. Thank you!
